How to use the Aussie Overtime & Public Holiday Pay Calculator

  1. Enter the ordinary hourly rate. This is the base rate before any loading or penalty rates apply.
  2. Add casual loading, if it applies. Tick the box and confirm the percentage — 25% is the common default, but check the relevant award or agreement.
  3. Enter ordinary hours worked for the pay period at the standard rate.
  4. Enter overtime hours in tiers. Most awards pay a lower multiplier (commonly 1.5x) for the first block of overtime hours, then a higher multiplier (commonly 2x) after that. Enter hours and adjust each multiplier to match the applicable award.
  5. Enter public holiday hours worked, if any, and confirm the multiplier — 2.5x is common for casuals, though some awards use 2x plus a day in lieu for permanent staff.
  6. Read the breakdown on the right: ordinary pay, both overtime tiers, and public holiday pay are itemised, with an estimated total at the bottom.
  7. Use Reset all fields to clear the form and start a new calculation.

Note: This tool gives a planning estimate only — it isn’t payroll or legal advice. Actual entitlements depend on the specific modern award, enterprise agreement, or employment contract, so confirm exact rates via the Fair Work Ombudsman (fairwork.gov.au) before processing pay.
